Wiring hot tub - for like the 10th time

This ti.e we are going to do it "right"  a 50 amp line all the way from the panel on the east side of the house to the hot tub on the west side.

We will be putting in a 6 gauge 3 wire through the attic and the down through our master closet and the guest bedroom closet then out through the west wall to a breaker box just 10 feet from the hot tub.

We got a bid for 3300$ so we decided to do at least part of it ourselves to save some dough.

Today we measured out all the areas and drilled holes and removed sheet rock.  I ran a piece of string through the whole thing in order to measure how much wire we would need. It turns out we need just 100 feet almost on the nose. So I bought a 125 foot rule from Lowes. Normally marked at $184 I got it for 10% off because the packaging looked like it may have been messed with.

Breaker box before wiring hot tub.  Note the 40 amp breaker. That I guess we will be replacing with the 50 breaker.
This is the downstairs closet, the  hole at the left is the hole we I thought it would come out from the upstairs.  The hole at the right is the one where the cable actually cones down from above and the pokes out through the plywood and a tiny pin pick through the siding
The upstairs closet hole to the downstairs closet.

Now that the holes are all drilled and there is access I need to get sam to help me pull the wire.

I ran the wire and coiled up a little on each end.  On this end I had about a text so I decided and nailed it down when the other round I only had about 3 feet so I had one extra loop which I just stapled to the truss in a circle.  These extra little amount will allow us to potentially have a little bit more if we ever need to do something different in the box and we will still be able to cut it to the exact length needed within the box.

Next will have the electrician come in to the actual wiring in the panel and at the hot tub switch and run the final cable to the hot tub. In an interesting twist d electrician while doing the wire called and said was only going to be $1,500.  So we will find out what he charges to finish up my work.  The said it will be a materials and labor charge.

Eating at a Vietnamese restaurant in Boise

The Boise State crew all went to the Vietnamese restaurant in Boise to try several dishes that are Vietnamese. I tried to eat a fish head and I got part way through it but some parts we're just two hard to even show up so I decided not to swallow and digest them. I asked the receptionist what the bill was and she said it was about $400 for the 27 of us. That means that for the multiple courses it was between 11 and $14 per person. I will be evaluating that against the cost of a meal with about seven courses when we go to Vietnam.

Primus Rocks

Primus at the Revolution Concert house

A totally unexpected show,  where the songs of Charley and the Chocolate Factory (original version) are redone by primus.  Dahl or someone turned in his grave....

Beatrix kennel - raised door height

As Beatrix has continued to grow

She had gotten just as tall as the kennel that used to dwarf her.  Now if she does not "duck" as she enters and exits her kennel she will bump her back

I thought about how are you increase the kennel  height by 6,12 or 18 inches as she gets taller in the next year however I was looking at the kennel and figured out how I can get another two to three inches easy.
I could just cut away a portion of the cage above the door.  The two inches there does not keep the dog in and only makes it so that as she exits it is more difficult. Well I got out my bolt cutters and some pliers and went to work.
I used pliers to break the jagged barbs off so that they would not slice her open if she rubbed against them.

Finally I put the table top on and close the door. Notice the gap at the top this is the extra  space that i just created for Beatrix.

Fire and brimstone - giant slash pile.

One of my biggest ever fires today burns in about an hour and a half. A couple of cardboard boxes thrown on some giant branches that blew down in the last couple of weeks dried out and welcomed my lighter. The aftermath after about 15 minutes. After this I restocked a bunch of the bigger people and started a smaller fire with the larger diameter wood.

Dvd shelf project

Over the years we have built up quite a DVD collection and we have started in many different closets free standing shelves or even bins sometimes as we have reorganized the house. Lately we have been talking about building a set up custom shelves just for the DVD collection in our theater room bring a reason to Portland trip we stopped by IKEA and picked up 6 hidden bracket shelves.

The bottom shelf is only 4 inches off the ground so we had to come up with a unique way for the hidden bracket to be screwed into and we just put it upside down. The measurement process which took several attempts to screw it in just right and have the shelf sitting on the trim.

The next five shelves went in with increasing speed as the measurements became second nature while they were evenly spaced.

After all six shelves were up will work started when Janae went through and separated the DVDs by childrens PG PG 13 and rated R and the end result looks great and now we know that we have only enough room for a couple new movies to come out. Hollywood you can go ahead and stop now

Small drawer cabinet project in the kitchen

The cabinet door that gets used the most - the one to the garbage - has a hinge problem and  the drawer front pocket hinge has been having some issues.  So I bought a couple of 6.38$ hinges and a new drawer front kit.  And installed them.

Impala axle start

Finally after months we cleaned out the garage and since we had the 3rd set of moser axle seals,  we decided to try again.  This time they seated correctly and we started installing the rear disk brakes.
Finally a little movement.

Juniper - downtown boise - chicken in a biscuit

I went downtown received for breakfast today juniper. They had a original menu with all sorts of things I had not tried. Had the chicken in a biscuit breakfast with the biscuits and gravy with a breast of deep fried chicken bacon and an egg. I mixed it all together and it was delicious. There was not as much biscuit and there might have been in a normal biscuits and gravy but the combination of chicken bacon and crazy awesome. The gravy and just a little bit of pepper spice and I ended up eating more than I should have. My wife had french toast croissants which were also delicious at least the bite I had was.

Motorcycle seat 2 - bobbed

Sam bought a 78 or so kawasaki with a wacked out canvas seat.  So we thought probably just refinish it like to get on the other one. Resume. And we found I was a little bottom so he couldn't simply reupholster it.

This time we had to completely rebuild seat 44 San Juan at a different style of seed and bottom of the existing seat had a frame made out of metal which we were unable to staple into to stretch the fabric over it.  So we looked through the garage eventually found a piece of wood left over from a kitchen buthcher board.

We cut the wood in half and created the bend with a couple metal straps which made it surprisingly sturdy. Next week cut off the excess and sanded it. Maybe figured out what foam we  would use then stretched the upholstery over the top and stapled it
